SC v1

This is version 1 of the SC installation brackets.

r0101129.jpg (57083 bytes)I've done the initial work of making the brackets to mount the SC to my engine.  It fit's pretty snugly above the exhaust manifold after removing the AIR tubes, smog pump and bracket.r0101130.jpg (53302 bytes)

The inlet to the SC is on the back towards the bottom.  The outlet is the large square opening on the top.  The pulley is lined up with a yet-to-be-made pulley that will bolt to the crank pulley.  The big work now is to make the pieces needed to connect the SC outlet to the intake manifold, and to connect the throttle body and a bypass valve to the SC inlet on the back.

Currently, I've been taking care to do everything in a manner that I can repeatedly, and somewhat easily duplicate in the future.  With that in mind, I'm working on making molds for the SC inlet and outlet that I will be casting out of aluminum.  It will take a while yet.  I'm still collecting materials for making my melting forge and I'll need to make several test casts I'm sure before I get it right.

In addition to these, I need to make a couple pulleys as well.  I'll cast these to rough shape and then machine them to finish.  I'm hoping to be able to afford a lathe/mill by then, but I may have to shop this step out.

r0101100.jpg (57238 bytes)With that in mind, I made the mount so that the SC can easily be pivoted up and out of the way for getting to the exhaust side of the engine.  Along with this I'll need to design the SC inlet and outlets with quick releases of some sort.  I'm hoping to be able to flip the SC up with only a few minutes of work and a minimum amount of hassle.  If all goes well, I might not need to remove the drive belt or even loosen the belt tensioner.  That remains to be seen.

Also, throughout these and future pictures, you'll see both the stock exhaust manifold and the CalMini header.  I'm trial fitting everything with both to make sure it'll fit with either.

r0101097.jpg (56241 bytes)That's about it for now.  Just getting the SC mounted this far represents about a months work.  I deliberated long and changed my mind several times while trying to decide on how to run the belt before I could make the SC mount.  That also included several days of rummaging through junk yards looking for various pulleys hoping I could find some close enough to modify for my use.  As it stands now, I'll be making my own.

My next update will be after I make some significant headway.
